US Customs User Fee Decal question

by Michael s/v Infini » Mon Dec 04, 2006 3:14 pm

When leaving the US, is it necessary to continually renew this decal on a yearly basis if one isn't planning on returning to the US for an unknown time frame?

Not particularly. However, remember that the US includes the US VI and Puerto Rico. Many who cruise the carib end up in one of these...

Peace.

We didn't renew it one year and when we came back into the U.S., they just added the $25 decal fee as part of the clearing procedure.

Dumb question

Educate me, what is a U.S Customs Decal. Why would I want one?

You need one to reenter the U.S.

by Kettlewell » Tue Dec 05, 2006 1:45 pm

U.S. boats need a U.S. Customs user fee decal to reenter the U.S. It is not necessary to have one when you enter, but it can speed things up. In some places you have to go to the the Customs and Immigration people if you don´t have a sticker number to report over the phone, though I think these days most entries must be made in person.

US Customs User Fee Decal question

by Nowornever » Tue Dec 05, 2006 3:24 pm

According to the US Customs and Border folks, this fee is required of all boats, not just US boats.

Hypothetically speaking a couple of trips to Bermuda and one to the Caribbean without telling Uncle...I won't make that mistake again.

CBP decal/sticker in USVI

by Security » Wed Dec 13, 2006 11:18 am

We are one of those who did not purchase the decal because we had no intention of being in US waters for several years. Well, as we all know, plans change. When we decided on the spur-of-the-moment last month to sail from Bonaire to the USVI, we were able to obtain the decal online. The actual decal was mailed to our permanent mailing address in the US, but the decal number was made available to us online after about 48 hours for processsing time.

We were required to have this decal number when we cleared in at St. John. And, yes, this decal is now required for all boats entering US waters, even those that are foreign flagged.
