The SSCA Foundation
Supporting the cruising life you love
As an SSCA member, Commodore or Associate, you have lived all or part of the rich sixty + year history of SSCA, or read about it in the documents archived at SSCA.org. What began in California as a modest effort to encourage camaraderie among live aboard cruising sailors through informal get-togethers and pot-luck suppers in ports near and far eventually migrated to Florida and has evolved and been hugely successful.
SSCA is the oldest and largest organization of cruising sailors, and the camaraderie of fellow SSCA cruisers underway and in harbors and at gams is undeniable. And today, SSCA finds itself in the unique and necessary position of respected expert and spokesperson for the entire cruising community.
Gone are the days of an entirely volunteer SSCA with mimeograph machine. SSCA membership dues at their current level are inadequate to field the 21st century. SSCA was able to achieve a great deal for a long time on a very lean budget, but the 21st century initiatives that serve our members have overtaken our budget and dues are no longer sufficient to the task.
Enter, the SSCA Foundation! Established in 2008, the Foundation, a 501(c)3 corporation, now helps fill the gap between dues income and SSCA needs in accordance with its By-laws.
The SSCA Foundation offers three ways for members to fund the Foundation, and contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law:
"Give me five"
Look for this box when registering for a gam or renewing your membership. Check it off to contribute a tax deductible $5. It is merely the equivalent of a Starbucks or a cold beer, but taken altogether, these small contributions empower Home Base and SSU.
Cash donations
Although the checkoff box is only for $5, the Foundation certainly will accept larger donations. Donations of all sizes are appreciated and help support the cruising life you love. You can make a donation directly online or you can send a check made out to "SSCA Foundation" to: SSCA, 500 Oakbrook Lane, Summerville, SC 29485.
"V" for Vessel and Vehicle Donations
Going to sea? Donate the car or other vehicle you won't be needing in the next several years. Swallowing the anchor? Donate the boat that has served you well on your adventure of a lifetime. SSCA Foundation accepts these donations through Action Donation Services.
